16" Silent Check Valve Replacement in Water Tower |
Customer: City of Hartford, WI |
| When the town of Hartford, WI realized it had a problem with a 16" check valve installed in a new water tower, they called Landmark Tank (the original contractor) to change out the 16" valve. Once the decision was made to install a new globe style silent check valve, the next problem was how to change the valve in the small space it occupied. | |||
| The 16" valve was in the base of the new water tower eight feet in the air on a vertical piece of pipe. The limited space in the pipe room did not allow for use of a forklift or lifting device to aid in getting the 1,000lb valve out of the pipe and to the ground. RMS deployed two service techs to evaluate the job and worked with Landmark to develop a plan using chain hoists suspended from the second floor to lift and remove the valve. A total of three chain hoists were used to lift and position the new valve and spool piece into place for re-assembly. | |||
| The project was completed by RMS in less than two days from start to finish, allowing Landmark Tank to finish some final plumbing and turn the tank over to the Town of Hartford. | |||

10 Valves Are Installed on Asbestos/Cement Pipe |
Customer: Town of Highland, IN |
| The Town of Highland Indiana had a Storm Water project to complete on Strong Street. The project involved running a Storm Pipe of various sizes down the middle of the street. The engineer on the project realized they had to cross the Water Main at 5 different spot andthat they would have to build offsets into the water main to make clearance for the new | |||
storm pipe. The question was how do we build the offsets and not disrupt water flow to the community? The decision was make to cut in 2 insertion valves, one on each side of the street to allow the water main to be shut off and the offsets built. They chose the EZ Valve by Advanced Valve Technology. RMS Utility Services was hired by the contractor on the job to put in the EZ Valves. When the mains crossing the roads were exposed they were found to be oversize 4” and 6” A.C. (Transite) Pipe. |
| The standard EZ Valves had to be sent back to the manufacture to be machined out to the oversized O.D. After a short delay the valves were installed on the A.C. pipe. The contractor installed the valves ahead of their pipe crew allowing them the flexibility to simply close the valves when needed. | |||

Oil Leak In Romeoville, IL |
Customer: Village of Romeoville, IL |
| RMS Utility Services was called by the City of Romeoville water department to respond to an urgent need for (2) 8” insertion valves to be installed at the site of an oil pipeline leak. RMS responded the same day prepared to install (2) 8” EZ Vales to isolate the water main under the leaking pipeline. | |||
| Upon arrival at the jobsite an RMS service tech needed to attend a Safety Orientation meeting, as well as get fitted for a respirator and the proper safety equipment. Once prepared RMS was on the jobsite waiting for the pipeline contractor to expose a clean portion of water main to work on, 10 hours later the first hole was opened and the main prepared for the valve insertion. RMS inserted the first valve in less then and hour and a half and few hours later installed the second valve in about the same time. The quickness in which the EZ Valves could be installed was a big advantage so the pipeline could be repaired quickly. | |||
