Cla-Val® repair projects leads to impromptu training
The City of Oak Lawn Illinois had (2) 10” Cla-Val control valves acting as fill valves to their underground water reservoir. The valves were in operation for a long period of time with no problems. Oak Lawn made the decision that since these valves were very important to their water system they would do some preventative maintenance to avoid any issues in the future.
They contacted Midwest Water Group/Rms Utility Services to evaluate and repair their control valves. RMS contacted Cla-Val® and developed a plan on what should be replaced on the valves. It was decided that the internal rubber parts of the valve should be replaced and that the older pilot system should be replaced as well. While the valves were apart we added position indicators to the top of the valves so that the operators could see when and how far the valves were opening. The work on both valves was completed in one day and the valves were put back into service.
The City of Oak Lawn also took advantage of the repair by having some of their operators on the jobsite during the repairs. The operators learned how the valves work and what maintenance needs to be done on them. They also earned CEU’S for their time on the job.
